Take your dad to something he really wants to do this year with this Pittsburgh Guide to Father’s Day
Return the tie, put back the package of socks and listen up. We know dad can be tough to buy for, which is why we compiled this Father's Day in Pittsburgh guide written by a dad, for dads.
Read on for ideas for all types of dads from roller coaster enthusiasts to craft beer seekers, outdoor adventurers and more on June 16, 2024.
DIY Brew Trails | Craft Beer Dads
Speaking of beer, Pittsburgh is a paradise for purveyors of IPAs. With nearly 50 craft breweries to choose from, create dad a custom craft beer trail through the city as you do the driving. The Pittsburgh Brewers Guild website lets you easily select from pre-made trails in iconic Pittsburgh neighborhoods and filter by who has outdoor seating and food menus to keep Dad happy.
Dad Tip: If you’re feeling adventurous, I highly recommend Strange Roots for some of the best sours and experimental ales you'll find anywhere.
Outdoor Fun | Dadventurers
What do you do in the city with dads who love being active? Get them moving along our iconic riverfront. Rent from Kayak Pittsburgh and paddle the Allegheny River or from Golden Triangle Bike and pedal the Great Allegheny Passage. Plus, our walkable city makes it easy to explore our 90 neighborhoods and finding the local hotspots and hidden gems in each one.
Dad Tip: Kayak Pittsburgh's pop-up location is now open for 2024, located right by Acrisure Stadium at Heinz Key Landing. It's the perfect place to rent, kayak our signature three rivers and then grab food or a drink in the North Shore after.
Free Live Concerts | Music Dads
Dads love to hear the words “free” and “music” go together. The Allegheny County Summer Concert Series has just the thing June 16 at the Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater! Enjoy a free concert from Jeff Jimerson & Airborne and Father’s Day Car Cruise and treat dad to the food trucks, Bella Terra Vineyards wine and Hop Farm Brewing Co. craft beer while he enjoys the tunes.
Level Up Father's Day | Gamer Dads
Arcades are back in a big way across the city! Grab lunch and go duck pin bowling at Shorty's Pins & Pints in the North Shore or Coop De Ville in the Strip District (both of which house pinball and classic arcade games). Then, head to the newly opened Sandbox VR at The Terminal for a fully immersive experience for dad and up to five others.
Dad Tip: Barcadia right in Market Square is my go-to place to game. It’s loaded with two floors of my favorite arcade games and pinball machines and has a great beer selection and cocktail menu.
Hit the Links | Golf Dads
Golfers have never had more options than right now in Pittsburgh. Start at OnPar Now in the Terminal and use their TrackMan simulator to play 200+ courses across the world without ever leaving the building. Then, head next to door to newly-opened Puttshack (kid-friendly until 8 p.m.) for a round of tech-infused mini golf that will have everyone trying to get the high score.
Cruises and Celebrations | Dads with Little Ones
If kayaking and beer tours are a bit out of your kid’s age range, there's still great stops city-wide to make Father’s Day memorable. Take a Father's Day Cruise with the Gateway Clipper and enjoy a fantastic buffet, drinks and dance floor accompanied by the best views of the city. Bring dad to the Pittsburgh Zoo for free admission on Father's Day! Enjoy a BBQ brunch in the National Aviary and explore our feathered friends afterward.
Dad Tip: With my little one, we love to cap off a perfect day in the city with a ride on the Monongahela Incline and ice cream at the top of Mount Washington.
Ride, Sip and Savor | Coaster Dads
Is your dad more of a thrillseeker? Spend Father's Day at Kennywood this year and see who screams loudest spinning on the Black Widow and tackling the Steel Curtain, Phantom's Revenge and other signature roller coasters.
The Bites & Pints Food & Drink Festival will also be going on in the park, so treat dad to a Bite Card so he can chow down on international fare and drink options from nine different tasting locations.
