Insider’s Guide: Contemporary Craft
See exhibits, take classes and shop local artists where art comes to life
Presenting contemporary art in craft materials by international, national and regional artists since 1971, Contemporary Craft offers innovative exhibitions focused on multicultural diversity and contemporary art, as well as a range of hands-on workshops, community engagement programs and a store featuring artists’ work.
The Studio
Each year, Contemporary Craft’s Studio offers more than 100 classes and workshops in metals/jewelry making, wood, fiber, mixed media, book binding and paper arts at every level from beginner-friendly to mastery. The workshops are taught by talented regional artists as well as outstanding national visiting artists. A full schedule of workshops can be found on their website.
The three Studio spaces can also be rented out for individuals to work in independently with access to unique tools and equipment not normally found in a home studio. Private lessons are also available in the Studio spaces.
The Store
The Contemporary Craft Store represents more than 150 artists nationwide offering handmade, one-of-a-kind functional and decorative artwork such as statement jewelry, unique ceramics, blown glass, handwoven or hand-dyed fiber art and heirloom quality furniture.
Each of these pieces has spent countless hours in the hands of an artist before reaching Contemporary Craft, and each purchase from the Store directly supports the livelihood of working artists and helps advance the economic ecosystem of the craft community.
Shop in-person Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. or online.
Drop-In Studio
Contemporary Craft considers families an important part of our community. In recognition of this focus, the Drop-In Studio was created with activities designed for all ages by one of the exhibiting artists in Contemporary Craft’s major exhibition.
The Drop-In Studio is a free, hands-on activity area for adults and children inside Contemporary Craft. The space, which is open during all public hours, encourages visitors of all ages and all skill levels to reach into themselves for the imagination and resources to develop and finish the project.
Admission and Parking
Admission to Contemporary Craft’s exhibitions is always free.
