The Lowdown: The Duquesne Incline rises 400 feet to the Top of Mount Washington, which has been named one of the "10 most beautiful views in America!"

Who Am I: Dozens of funiculars used to dot Pittsburgh's hillsides, taking people, freight and even automobiles to and from the former steel capital of the U.S. Today, the 140-year-old Duquesne Incline symbolizes Pittsburgh's green future, serving as a steward bringing tourists up to Mt. Washington and leading them to scenic views, beautiful parks and fine dining at the top.

The Lowdown: We love pierogies so much that every Pirates game features a Pierogi Race at the bottom of the 5th. (Go Jalapeno Hannah!)

Who Am I: You are the humble pierogi, a Polish-American dumpling that has become one of the signature foods of the city. You can find these little pockets of doughy goodness throughout the city in various preparations - pan fried and smothered with butter and onions, vegan at top-ranked Apteka and even dessert pierogi at PNC Park as you watch the Pirates.

The Lowdown: Pittsburgh is the Robotics Capital of the World! Visit the Carnegie Science Center to see the Robot Hall of Fame with replicas of some of TV & film's most popular robots.

Who Am I: This lunar rover is a perfect symbol of Pittsburgh's evolution into a robotics and AI hotbed. It's small and nimble, just like the city, and able to adapt to any challenges it runs into. You can see Moon-bound rovers and landers just like this one being built before your eyes when you visit Moonshot Museum.

The Lowdown: Won't you be our guest? Mister Rogers' Neighborhood was filmed here in Pittsburgh - you can visit the puppets and sets at the Heinz History Center.

Who Am I: You are the iconic red cardigan associated with Fred Rogers, the kind-hearted presence that navigated children through wars, divorces, racial divides and more during the run of the hit children's program. Did you know? Rogers' mother knitted all of the sweaters that appeared on the show up until her death in 1981.

The Fan

The Lowdown: The Terrible Towel was invented in 1975 when legendary announcer Myron Cope told people to bring yellow dish towels to wave at a playoff game.

Who Am I: Often imitated and never duplicated, the Terrible Towel is ubiquitous with the Pittsburgh sports scene and represents the passion us locals have for all of our teams. Keep your eyes peeled. Steelers fans are among the most well-traveled fan bases, and you will often see Terrible Towels being waved en masse even during Steelers away games.
