Listen Up: Pride on the Shore 2024 Welcomes Dazzling Acts From Near & Far

Once again this spring, Pittsburgh Pride brightens our city with joyful and inclusive gatherings that take place from May 31 through June 2.

Check out the list of celebratory events, from a community parade and picnic to drag performances and anticipated concerts featuring electrifying local and national acts. This year’s Pride (theme: “Still We Rise”) is organized by a group of local LGBTQ+ organizations, including TransYOUniting.

The Origins of Pride on the Shore

We caught up with Nick Staples, the creator and executive producer of Pride on the Shore, which this year brings two star-studded extravaganzas to Stage AE — one on Friday, May 31, and the other on Sunday, June 2.

Staples explains that the event was founded in 2022 to fill a void in the music festival space for celebrating the LGBTQIA+ scene. “We're on a mission to bring music, love, and community together all while giving back to the community that supports us,” he says.

Produced by PromoWest North Shore and Nick Staples Presents, Pride on the Shore welcomes, supports and celebrates all members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community. “Now heading into its third year, Pride on the Shore continues to create a forward-thinking Pride music experience for the Pittsburgh community,” says Staples.

He adds that, in the spirit of helping those less fortunate, a portion of net proceeds from each of their festivals benefits a local non-profit organization. “In addition,” he says, “Pride on the Shore donates tickets to those in the LGBTQIA+ community who would like to attend, but do not have the resources to purchase tickets.”

The Best Lineup Yet

When it comes to securing yet another exciting lineup, Staples says Pride On The Shore keeps its commitment to booking a diverse, inclusive and predominantly LGBTQIA+ lineup, yet they also welcome allied artists who are “strong, supportive, vocal advocates of the community.” Friday’s show will feature recent-addition special guest Jojo Siwa as well as Natasha Bedingfield, Keke Palmer, DJ Kitty Glitter and DJ Hannah Rad, while Sunday’s festivities welcome Chappell Roan, Jess Glynne, Slayyyter, G FLIP, Matt Suave, The Scarlet Opera, Kaleena Zanders, Jessica Wild and Xunami Muse.

For 2024, Staples promises the fest’s most diverse lineup to date. “In addition to our incredible national and international acts, we'll also be including seven members of our local drag queen and king scene,” he says.

“On top of the remarkable talent we have selected, I'm the most excited about our elevated offerings and elements being added to the event.” (Think additional photo opportunities and areas, exceptional technical stage elements and a few other surprises along the way, he teases.)

So many factors are taken into account when choosing each spring’s roster. “Whether it be a new up-and-coming artist or even one that's been around, we try to find the perfect mesh to cater to the largest audience,” Staples says. “It's so hard to choose who I'm the most excited for this year.... they're all so great!”

Grab Your Tickets

Staples’ favorite memories from years past have come from the people in attendance.

“One of the best things to witness is the reactions on festival goers' faces when their favorite artist comes on stage, or when we set off our confetti and special effects,” he says. “It's a moment that makes you realize we all share something in common — the sound of music.”

Staples offers tips for attendees, especially first-timers: “Come ready to dance and sing! We highly recommend getting tickets ASAP, as last year's event sold out before the show. The earlier you grab your tickets, the cheaper they are,” he says. “We can't wait to see you there!”
