Saturdays in Shadyside
Saturdays in Shadyside cover all the weekend basics - food, shopping and outdoor recreation.
If you're new here, good news; I am too. I'm a 20 something millennial who, contrary to popular belief, enjoys more than avocado toast and the newest yoga-lates class, (although I do love some avocado). I just moved from the suburbs to Shadyside and although I've claimed Pittsburgh as my home for 15+ years, they say you truly don't know someone until you live with them, and I can't help but feel like I'm meeting Pittsburgh for the first time all over again. So as I rediscover the city, so will you. Let's start with Shadyside.
Saturdays in Shadyside cover all the weekend basics - food, shopping and outdoor recreation.
What to Eat/Drink
Lets start with food. Do you like burgers and fries? Stop in at Mario East Side Saloon for a quick beer and great bar food. More of a sandwich person? The Yard has you covered with every type of grilled cheese sandwich you can imagine. Really just in the mood for a good margarita? Look no further than Steel Cactus for one on the rocks with a fabulous side of chips a queso. If you're into dessert, Prantls bakery is one of the best in the city, and a Walnut Street staple.
Where to Shop
What's food without good shopping? Walnut street is Pittsburgh's urban destination for high-end shopping. From Sephora to Lululemon to Banana Republic, and lots in between, there is no shortage of quality shopping in Shadyside. For a complete list of stores to hit, visit Think Shadyside! for more information.
Get Outside
If you enjoy the great outdoors, Shadyside is home to Mellon Park - a quaint little park tucked right in the heart of the Shadyside community. Bring your dog, your running shoes or even a blanket and picnic basket. Sometimes the best Saturdays are the quiet ones spent relaxing under a tree with a good book, and Mellon Park is the perfect place for that.
Depending what time of year it is, Mellon Park also has its own schedule of events that take place. Check out their events page for more details.
All in all, Shadyside is a great neighborhood to spend a casual Saturday either by yourself or with friends. There's so much more that I haven't even mentioned - come out and explore for yourself!
