The Energy Innovation Center is a LEED Platinum facility focused on clean and sustainable energy solutions and technologies.

History & Continued Legacy
At the time of its original opening in 1932, the Clifford B. Connelly Trade School was one of the largest and most modern schools of its kind, housing 29 vocational shops and offering classes in a variety of skilled trades to 1,500+ students per year. After severe budget cuts in the 1990s and a sharp decline in enrollment, it shuttered its doors in 2004. After sitting in disrepair for over a decade, the building and campus reopened in 2014 as the Energy Innovation Center. The EIC is a 7 acre urban complex located in the Lower Hill District that promotes energy-sector research and innovation while creating direct and deliberate bridges to job creation, entrepreneurship and urban economic revitalization. The complex, which has more than 130 corporate, academic and non-profit collaborative partners, is a LEED Platinum Facility and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The EIC and its collaborative partners are honored to be a part of the vibrant network of nonprofits, businesses and educational institutions that are currently working diligently to renovate and revitalize Pittsburgh’s historic Hill District.

Meeting Space
The building offers a dynamic atmosphere for any event, with multiple floor plans and dramatic views of the Pittsburgh skyline. The building has historically preserved elements that pay homage to Pittsburgh’s industrial past, contrasted with innovative sustainable design that is emblematic of Pittsburgh’s future. The event space can accommodate events of various sizes and configurations. Most rooms are equipped with modern audio visual equipment and standard conference furniture.

The Events Department welcomes all inquiries from organizations that are aligned with or contribute to any aspect of our mission. The Center does offer facility rental for one wedding a month, please inquire for availability.
