Experience Butler County
Located just 20 minutes north of Pittsburgh, Butler County is filled with small towns, gorgeous scenery, picturesque parks, recreational activities and more than 200 years of history.
Follow Washington’s Trail, the path a young George Washington took during the French & Indian War. His mission was to deliver a letter demanding the French end their occupation of the region. Blue markers identify the trail. You can learn more about Washington’s journey at Harmony Museum’s Washington 1753 Cabin exhibit. Harmony Museum interprets 250 years of rich history through its custom exhibits. They own nine properties from the main Harmony Museum building with its unique wine cellar to the Harmonist cemetery.
Many of the towns in Butler are home to their own local history museums. The Senator Walter Lowrie House is one of the rare house museums in the country furnished with objects original to the family who occupied it.
Zelienople’s Historical Society has exhibits and tours of two historic houses from the early 1800s: The Passavant House and the Buhl House.
